Earners of the Rajasthan Royals Sports Media and Broadcasting badge have gained insights into the sports media industry, the art of sports storytelling, the commercialisation of sport, sports media ethics and culture, and the various media platforms available today and potential future trends. They have also gained practical insights into what a career in sports media entails from an acclaimed international sports journalist. This course is offered in partnership with Deakin University.
Earning Criteria

The course material integrates Rajasthan Royals video insights which are specially created videos by business professionals at the club and a leading sports journalist and presenter, Mayanti Langer Binny, that bring the theory to life with real stories of sports media and broadcasting. To complete the course, earners completed six learning modules that comprised a mix of theory and practical examples.

Module 1: The Sports Media Industry. Earners got the opportunity to learn about the dimensions of sports media and entertainment in the context of storytelling and societal impact, the different roles media companies take in producing sports, and to critically review sports media deals to assess the economic, fan and audience impacts.

Module 2: Sports Storytelling. Earners got the opportunity to learn about the production cycle for sports storytelling, the careers and roles involved in delivering sports broadcasts, critically review diversity issues and challenges in the sports media and broadcasting industries and understand how this is currently being addressed and review the role that technology has taken in advancing the entertainment value for sports audiences.

Module 3: Commercialising Sport. Earners got the opportunity to understand the relationship between sports bodies and broadcasters and why they are vital to each other, the role advertising plays in the success of broadcasting and streaming of sports events, and why some sporting leagues choose to manage their own broadcasts end-to–end via their own networks.

Module 4: Sports Media Ethics & Culture. Earners got the opportunity to learn how politics can intersect with sports and sporting events, why sports athletes have an additional responsibility as role models, and how social media impacts sports scandals and drug taking.

Module 5: Media Platforms. Earners got the opportunity to learn about the key platforms for media and broadcast and how they have evolved over recent decades, and to critically examine social media content and understand where it fits into the media ecosystem. Through a detailed case study, earners also got the opportunity to closely examine the Indian media market and how it has changed from a state broadcast system through to a diverse content creation ecosystem today.

Module 6: The Future of Sports Entertainment. Earners got the opportunity to review some of the potential new technology that could drive the future creation of sports entertainment, reflect on the global sports media and broadcast industry and consider how this may change over the coming decade, and learn from the career journey shared by a professional working in the sports media and broadcasting industry.
