To receive this award, students in the Bachelor of Environmental Science (Environmental Management and Sustainability) must submit a digital portfolio and narrative that provide compelling evidence of having met the Hallmark standards.

Achievement of the Hallmark was judged by a panel of disciplinary experts, including representatives from the course team, industry and a past graduate of the course.

The concept for this Deakin Hallmark was endorsed by the Deakin University Environmental Sciences Advisory Board with members representing the following organisations: Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (Victoria), Eastern Alliance for Sustainable Learning Parks Victoria Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources (South Australia), APA Group and Manningham City Council.
